      Re: November 2013 Challenge

I’ve found which part of the sofa is the bottom by following Karen’s suggestion and recolouring all parts different colours:

I turns out that the top-right, dark blue part is the bottom of the sofa. The best way to do this would be to add a layer to the original map image, before you start to recolour it:

Fill in the image with your pattern as usual, then add another new layer. Make the first one transparent so you can see what you are doing. Make sure the layers window is open:

Lower the opacity on the layer you just recoloured so you can see what you are doing when you recolour the new layer:

Click on the new layer, use the rectangular select tool to select the part of the layer you want to fill. Resize your pattern, I made it half the size of the original, and filled the selected part of the layer:

Adjust the opacity of the middle layer again to 100%:

Now just export your image and recolour the same way.

However, my sofa still didn’t look right. I firmly believe that the mesh for this sofa hasn’t been mapped correctly as there is no way it should look so stretched and distorted, so I just ended up filling in the bottom of the sofa with a colour rather than with a pattern:
