This answer was taken straight from the Sims 2 official support site and fixed the issue for me:

You may be using an older version of Body Shop. Make sure you are using the icon in the menu for the latest expansion you own.

        1. Click on Start and then Programs.
        2. Click on EA GAMES, then choose the latest Sims 2 expansion you have installed.
        3. Click on The Sims 2 Body Shop.

This version of Body Shop is the most up to date since it was installed with the latest expansion; you should not experience any crashing issues.

If you have Windows Vista/7, right-click on the Bodyshop icon and select ‘Run As Administrator’. In XP, right-click and select ‘Run as…’ then just select the normal user. I do this and it will start up, albeit after a few minutes.

Please post all support requests in the forums if at all possible

You also want to delete your body shop cache file. It can be huge and stop the game from loading. You can find it here: C:UsersYour NameDocumentsEA Games/Sims2
Go to the very bottom without going into the other folders and you will see Accessory. Cache, Groups.Cache and the the CGI file or something to that effect. You can safely delete it. This will keep body shop from crashing. Note: Do not delete any other files. 🙂
