[countdown=09/30/2012 12:00 AM;It is finally here]Challenge end time:[/countdown]PLEASE READ OUR ANNOUNCEMENT BEFORE YOU POST TO SEE HOW TO ADD YOUR IMAGES
Can you believe it’s September already!
For this month’s challenge, I’ve picked a cute, little house that you can find here:
https://www.houseplans.com/1260-square-feet-3-bedrooms-2-bathroom-craftsman-home-plans-2-garage-24446It’s nice and simple so should appeal to members who have not entered any of our other challenges. It comes with floor plan included on the page, so should be quite easy to follow.
- House can be built with either Sims 2 or Sims 3 game.
- Must be a residential lot.
- Any expansion and/or stuff packs can be used.
- House must be as close to the image as possible, including the gardens. However, poetic license is allowed – for example, you can add cars, fencing, garden furniture etc. It’s the general house layout and landscaping that’s important.
- Custom content can be used.
- You don’t need to provide the house as a download (in our downloads section only), but you can if you wish, as long as you follow our uploading rules and provide links to the custom content you use.
- Required images are: Bird’s eye view(s), front and back of the house, and every room inside. If you can’t manage to take a screenshot of the bathroom you can leave it out, but we have some screenshot tutorials that may help:
https://www.simfansuk.com/sims/tutorials/creative-21/how-to-take-a-good-screenshot-450/
Note that this is a challenge, it isn’t a competition with prizes, and we won’t be picking an overall winner. We’ve chosen a relatively simple design for our first challenge in the hope of attracting more entries. Simply reply to this post with your pictures.
Comments regarding each entry are welcome, and feel free to use the ‘Likes’ and ‘Thanks’ buttons at the bottom of each post 🙂
Wishing you all the best!
(P.S. Don’t forget, our members can also post challenges here! Just read our announcement before you post.)

Well you know me I’ll give it go 😀 I love these challenges Angel:) I only yesterday learned how to make the roof so will be interesting if I can make this one lol

Well I started it today and roof is quite tricky. It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect, just as long as it’s similar. 🙂 Looking forward to you ‘giving it a go’!

There’s a Brick Wall Set on MTS by sailfindragon which has a green color which looks absolutely perfect for the front section of this house! https://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=479732

I really like that website! I have found it quite inspiring for some of my creations. Unfortunately they don’t turn out like what is on their site, I end up with something just as awesome. Already started on this and had some issues with the garage but I think I have found a solution.

Just started this in Sim 3, have got the shell done and while I think it looks ok am thinking am going to trash it and do it in Sims 2. Have decided I REALLY dont like Sims 3 build, its so dark and half the time windows and doors dont place properly the first time so have to go fix them, and while its great having the creator tool, the colours on the siding wouldnt match even when they were the same numbers! But it is the lighting that ruins it for me, even after I’ve messed around with the settings etc. Give me Sims 2 anyday!!!

Already have those, they’re really nice. However, it didn’t quite look right on the house so I’ve used a different one. 🙂

Well I did manage to finish it in Sims 3. Ended up finding a lighting mod so then the outside became brighter which fixed the shadows that was making the wall not look the same colour, and also found an invisible ceiling light to make the inside brighter.
Being my first fully built house in Sims 3, it is rather sloppy, just thought this challenge was the perfect opportunity to finally have a proper go at building something, and I do still much prefer sims 2, as much as I did like the create tool, and also the plant options TS3 has, I found the graphics to be a bit overbearing somethimes, and I think the pics look worse than Sims 2 ones! That my opinion though, the more I get used to it the more I may like it!

September 4, 2012 at 3:37 pm #3283TheDeadSimRe: September Challenge – 2012
I am quite interested in building with sims 3 as well as sims 2 so that way I can share my creations with more people. If anyone can give me tips for Sims 3 could they send me a message or possibly inform me where I could start a thread. I was concerned with issues such as flat lots, how to package, and other need-to-know type stuff. I’m familiar with sims 2 and I am aware sims 3 is a great difference. I haven’t got it yet but will be getting it shortly. I am not sure what eps and sps I should try to obtain as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks 🙂

Have a questions for folks. How big do you figure the walls in Sims 2 to be? About three feet wide? I’m trying to figure out so I can properly scale the house. 😀

Three feet is probably accurate, but unfortunately accurately portraying a floor plan is extremely difficult with sims. For example, hallways in real life are probably the equivalent of 1.5 sim walls. In sims the ideal hallway is 2 walls wide and different room sizes are confusing because sometimes you need a room to be a lot larger than the floor plan suggests to fit in the appropriate furniture. I usually try to decide the dimensions of a common area then work from there. Sorry I couldn’t be much more help.

I have an excel sheet that helps convert sims 2 into feet and inches or decimal. If anybody wants it please pm me for it. Can’t put it on here cos i can’t remember who where i got it from on MTS. I used it when i made ‘alladin’s cottage’.
