Re: First meshing attempt!
Lady Angel and Tofu, I’m amazed by both of you! Meshing is my dream but I don’t think I have what it takes. SimPE is a giant mystery to me even with tutorials. What program are you using for the actual meshing? Lady Angel, I love your thick legged table for a coffee table. Your third attempt is almost there if not there I think! Tofu, I love the shape of your table, it’s a bit monochromatic. You guys are so talented and smart!

Tric, I always thought meshing must be reserved for brave souls with experience with real life graphic design or the like. But after following the tutorial LadyAngel has listed here on the site (even after a bumpy start) I was already finished with a table mesh before I knew it! The tutorial calls for use of a program called Wings to make the 3D model. I found it to be quite intuitive within a short time of using it. If meshing is your dream, I would honestly say go for it!

Okay, it’s taken me hours, but I’ve finally created a table I’m happy with. It’s based on a pic I found on the internet. Thank you all so much for your input!
Tric, meshing is something I never in a million years I thought I’d ever be able to do, but I’ve decided I love it. The tutorials as BPS are so much easier to follow, and the free Wings 3D is much, much easier to use than the expensive Milkshape, which I could never get the hang of! If you follow the tute step by step, you’ll get there!
The only thing I found that was messing up my meshes was the mapping…I was re-scaling the mapped image to the same dimensions mentioned in the tutorial. Once I saved it as the size recommended by uvmapper when I went to save it, it fixed everything!

UV mapping is one of the most difficult things I found about doing some 3D work.. I’ve only ever used Autodesk Maya which was a requirement for a uni subject I have. I might try something like this in future.

The wood on the table kind of reminds me of a Sims 3 EA pattern.

I’ve made my own table mesh now too and came to realize that adding the textures and fiddling around with SimPE to get it into the game seems like a more complicated task to me than just building the 3D model. My poor table may never see the light of a Sim day.
Here is my meshing attempt:
This table is too nice to go to waste. I can help with getting it game-ready if you like? 🙂

That would be great! I really don’t know the first thing about what needs to be done. If you can point me in the direction of a tutorial or offer some tips, I can try to make sense of it. I know the general basics of SimPE but not what any of those TXTR, etc files related to objects actually do. I have to sort out a very time-consuming computer issue now though, so there is no hurry.

Well if you know how to use SimPE to recolour, you can send me your mesh I’ll map it and give it a basic texture, or you can send me a texture you like, then I’ll send it back to you for approval and/or upload. It’s up to you. I followed uvmapping tutorials from MTS and BPS, but it still took me a while to be able to do my first one. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. 🙂
If you’re not sure how to re-colour using SimPE I can help with that…that’s the easy part! lol You can check our my new tute on re-colouring custom content.
